Twitter reacts to Schiano reports

Posted: Updated:
KNOXVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Sunday afternoon, reports began circling that Greg Schiano would be the next head coach of the University of Tennessee football. Schiano is currently the Associate Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator at Ohio State.

Almost immediately, thousands of Twitter users began to voice their displeasure about the rumored hire, specifically referencing a Washington Post story from 2016 that detailed Schiano's alleged cover-up of the Jerry Sandusky abuses when Schiano was an assistant at Penn State.

UT alum Albert Haynesworth sent out a viral tweet suggesting that a Schiano hire would force him to reconsider which school he donated to.

It didn't take long for Tennessee politicians to joining in on the conversation.

Local Knoxville businesses also took a stand against Schiano.

Finally, students took to Twitter (and Neyland Stadium) for protest.

Despite the strong response, not all of the reactions were negative.
