NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A Nashville father says he shot and killed his son in self-defense Sunday morning.

The shooting happened at their home on Malta Drive.

According to police, Mario Ford Sr., 42, told his son, Mario Ford Jr., that he needed to move out. The two then got into a heated confrontation in the family room.

Ford Sr. told police his son pulled his gun first, which prompted him to draw his weapon and shoot, hitting his son in the neck. According to investigators, both men recently armed themselves with pistols due to their ongoing dispute.

Ford Sr., who has prior felony aggravated assault convictions, was arrested and charged with unlawful gun possession by a convicted felon.

The District Attorney’s Office will review the case to determine if he will also face charges for his son's death.
