Murfreesboro shoppers show support for Small Business Saturday

Posted: Updated:

Shoppers in Murfreesboro showed support for local shops by taking part in Small Business Saturday.

This is a day that consumers across the country head to local stores in their communities to make purchases.

This year's holiday season is especially important for the square in Murfreesboro.

Businesses that had to shut down during last month's planned white supremacist rally lost tens of thousands of dollars. They hope the holiday shoppers will offset some of that.

Susan Grear, who owns an invitation printing shop called The Write Impression, told News 4 there was a strong turnout on Saturday.

"It's been fabulous. We actually typically open at 10:30, and we had people coming in about 9:30 and it's been steady all day. Our community has rallied around downtown, and I think it's made more people around Rutherford County aware of the businesses down here."

While some store owners say Small Business Saturday is a big help, they actually saw an influx of business in the immediate weeks after the planned white lives matter rally.
