NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Loniel Greene, Jr., a former Metro councilman, has been disbarred by order of the Tennessee Supreme Court, according to a news release.

Greene was accused of false testimony at a hearing regarding the source of money used for his Tevares Buchanan’s bond. Buchanan is Greene’s first cousin.

Greene’s cousin was in jail on domestic assault charges. During recorded telephone conversations with his cousin, Greene agreed to testify falsely at his cousin’s bond source hearing that he was the source of the money used for his cousin’s bond when it was actually his cousin’s money.

Greene recanted his testimony in a February 2016 court hearing saying the statements he made during the bond hearing were false.

“I wanted to recant on my testimony given at the last Jan. 6 source hearing,” Greene said. “In that hearing, I did testify that the money for Mr. Buchanan’s bond would be coming from me personally.”

At the time, the District Attorney’s Office claimed some of the money Greene used to bond his cousin out of jail may have come from criminal enterprises.

Buchanan had been charged with assaulting a woman and conspiring with Greene to keep the woman from appearing in court.

During the recorded conversations obtained by the News 4 I-Team, Greene discussed with his Buchanan plans to keep the witness from testifying against the cousin. During those conversations, Greene also admitted having made efforts to coerce the witness from testifying.

Greene was arrested in February 2016 on charges of coercing the witness.

Greene had been elected as District 1 Councilman in September 2015.

In the August general election, Greene finished in a tie with attorney Nick Leonardo to force a runoff election in September. Greene won the runoff election by 37 votes.

On Nov. 4, Greene was shot at the Marathon gas station on White Bridge Road in west Nashville. Police said he followed two men into an alley where he was shot by Brandon Hunt-Clark.

On Dec. 29, Buchanan was arrested and charged with kidnapping and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Buchanan had just left Greene’s house.

Greene resigned from the Metro Council on Jan. 29 after News 4 obtained the recorded jail conversations.
