NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The executive director of the Fairgrounds Nashville says she is unaware of any official position taken by flea market vendor on the planned soccer stadium at the site.

Last week, Metro Council voted yes on financing for the proposed project that is expected to cost more than $200 million.

The stadium is set to be built at the fairgrounds if the city is awarded a Major League Soccer expansion team.

“They don’t want to see housing on the property, they don’t want to see mixed use. That’s what we fought for, to keep away from this property with the referendum,” said Shane Smiley, who opposes the soccer stadium.

“We do have quarterly meetings with our vendors. Through those meetings, I’m unaware of an official position,” said Laura Schloesser, executive director of the fairgrounds.

The day after the vote, the president of the Flea Market Vendors Association sent the council a letter, saying in part, “To clarify the record, the Flea Market Vendors Association has not endorsed the MLS proposal for the fairgrounds.”
