NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Metro police say an attempted robbery led up to a shooting near a Kroger in west Nashville on Thursday night.

The two victims showed up at a home on Lenox Avenue to look at a truck they found online that they were potentially interested in buying.

According to police, the suspects tried robbing the two men at gunpoint when they arrived.

One of the victims said he fired shots in self-defense, which hit 20-year-old Christopher Jenkins. According to police, Jenkins ran away from the scene until he collapsed in the parking lot of the Kroger on Charlotte Pike. Jenkins remains in critical condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

The victims ran from the house and said gunshots were fired in their direction.

Police arrested 22-year-old Raymond Amons on Thursday night in connection with the crime. He is charged with two counts of attempted robbery and aggravated robbery.

Amons is also believed to have been involved in an armed robbery on Nov. 2 at the Richland Hills apartment complex on Maudina Avenue.
