NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A women’s football team is coming to Nashville, and for the first time in the league’s existence, a woman will be head coach.

The Legends Football League, formerly known as the Lingerie Football League, is introducing the Nashville Knights.

Head coach Danika Brace said it’s a lot like the NFL, with one small difference.

The outfits, she admits, are revealing.

“We are showing our bodies are we are proud of them,” Brace said.

Brace said when she first joined the league in 2009, she was a bit uncomfortable in the clothing, but now she barely notices.

“When it’s third and 12 and you are worried about making the first down, you don’t even realize what you’re playing in,” Brace said.

Brace said the outfits have become less revealing over the years and that’s part of the reason the league has re-branded.

“The league has become a lot more competitive and filled with serious athletes, so now we are Legends Football League,” she said.

The league almost came to Nashville in 2010. Some were so against it, they created a petition to keep it out.

“Families are not protected. Little girls aren't protected when we have this type of infestation coming into Nashville,” said Tiffany Leeper in 2010.

Brace admits the outfits, at first, help get people in the stands.

“Guys may say, ‘Hey let's check out these outfits. We heard about the Lingerie Football League.’ The minute they see that first hit, every single one of them their eyes light up and realize it’s real football,” Brace said.

Brace said she's proud of the example she's setting for young girls.

“I have a lot of little girls saying, ‘Hey, I want to be you when I grow up.’ Because football for women wasn't something that was available 10-15 years ago, and now it is,” Brace said.

The season is set to start next April and the games will be played at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium.

Tryouts for the team are being held Dec. 9.
