NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Nashville Fire Department Chief Rick White has announced his retirement while facing DUI charges.

White, 62, was pulled over on Oct. 17 in Maury County. News 4 is still waiting on more details surrounding his arrest.

White’s retirement is effective immediately. Deputy Chief William Swann will serve as interim chief.

Mayor Megan Barry’s office issued the following statement on White’s arrest:

Earlier this year, Chief White informed me that he would be seeking retirement by 2018. This week, he informed me of his arrest on DUI charges and asked to take leave and accelerate his retirement plans. I accepted his decision so that he may seek any help he might need while ensuring the Fire Department was in good hands with Chief Swann.
