NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A driver is now charged with vehicular homicide after a deadly crash in Cane Ridge overnight.

According to police, Merrick J. Hanse lost control of her Nissan Pathfinder during a curve on Burkett Road and went off the road. Hanse reportedly overcorrected before hitting a ditch and overturning her SUV several times around 2:30 a.m. Friday.

Hanse's passenger, 49-year-old Trena Goshtasbi, died at the scene. Police said she was not wearing a seatbelt.

Hanse, 34, is charged with vehicular homicide by intoxication. She was extricated from her vehicle and was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Police said she will be arrested when she is released.

An officer who responded to the hospital said Hanse smelled like alcohol. Hanse reportedly consented to take a breath test, which showed her BAC level was at 0.213 percent, which is more than two times the legal limit.
