NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Metro police say the level of gun violence involving juveniles this year is startling.

Eight teenagers in Nashville have been murdered and nine have been charged with murder. Sixty-five teens have been charged with aggravated robbery and nearly 100 juveniles have been arrested on weapons charges.

To get guns off the streets and out of the hands of juveniles, police are swapping gift cards for guns.

“When we look at the statistics of our young people and gun violence, this year is startling,” said Pastor Michael Joyner with Greater Revelations Baptist Church. “Any effort we can make to bring guns off the street. If we get one gun off the street and save one life, it’s well worth the effort that we’ll be putting in here this Saturday.”

Anyone who turns in a gun on Saturday will receive a $50 Mapco gift card and a $20 Kroger gift card.

The event is being held at Greater Revelations Baptist Church on 12th Avenue North from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
