Police ask witnesses of deadly assault to come forward

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Metro police are asking witnesses of a deadly assault on Aug. 26 to come forward.

The assault at the intersection of 40th Avenue North and Delaware Avenue resulted in the death of 53-year-old Thomas Nevills.

Police said surveillance video shows that several witnesses recovered the assault on their cell phones, but have not spoken to police.

Police said Nevills got into an argument with the suspect inside the One Stop Market at 626 40th Avenue North. He left the store around 10:30 p.m.

Nevills then walked to the intersection of 40th Avenue North and Delaware Avenue, where police said he was struck in the head from behind.

Nevills was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical center, where he later died.
