NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

An East Nashville fire has rekindled after destroying a home overnight.

A neighbor woke up around 2:30 a.m. Friday and called 911 after seeing flames coming from the back of the home on Forrest Avenue.

Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the back of the home, but the house has significant damage.

At one point, the flames went across electrical lines. A tree across the street also caught fire.

At least five cats that were inside the house died in the fire.

The homeowner is reportedly out of town but did have someone watching the house. That person was not there at the time of the fire.

The fire department is blaming the cause of the fire on old faulty wiring inside the home.
