CLARKSVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A Clarksville man is accused of leaving his four children alone in a car over the weekend.

According to the Clarksville Police Department, someone called 911 to report the incident on North Riverside Drive around 8 p.m. Saturday.

When officers arrived, they said they saw Andre Higgins stumbling when he left a nearby business. He reportedly was having difficulty standing and was very disoriented.

The children, all between the ages of 2 and 10, were found inside a 2014 Dodge Avenger in the parking lot. Police said they were not harmed.

Police said Higgins stole several items from a nearby business, but the store owner decided not to press charges.

Higgins is charged with public intoxication and four counts of contributing to dependency and neglect. He also had an outstanding warrant for criminal impersonation. Higgins' bond was set at $20,500.

A family member has taken custody of the children.
