NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Metro police say a runaway from state custody was killed in a targeted shooting in north Nashville on Friday.

The shooting happened on Phipps Drive and Lunn Drive around 11:20 a.m.

Police say 14-year-old Tirell Hill ran away from an Antioch home where he was in DCS custody on May 19. Officers had been looking for him since.

Investigators say Hill was shot in the street or close to it by a person who had gotten out of a black Nissan Altima with dark-tinted windows and a spoiler on the trunk.

Police said Hill did not have any known ties to the area and it is unknown why he was there.

A witness who heard the shots said the driver of the Altima drove down a dead end road before turning around and leaving the neighborhood.

Detectives are working to determine where Hill had been and who he had been with, particularly over the last week. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
