Driver charged with vehicular homicide in Clarksville crash

CLARKSVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A man has been arrested in connection to a fatal crash that happened in Clarksville in March.

Tyler Pettie, 25, was arrested on Thursday afternoon and booked into the Montgomery County jail.

According to the Clarksville Police Department, Pettie ran into the back of another car stopped at a red light at the intersection of Fort Campbell Boulevard and Tiny Town Road on March 17.

The other driver, 21-year-old Austin McElwrath, was taken to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Police said Pettie was driving 65 mph in a 45 mph zone.

Pettie also allegedly took prescription medications before the crash.

Pettie is charged with vehicular homicide, driving under the influence and speeding. His bond was set at $75,000.
