For the people who knew and loved 7-year-old Harmony Warfield, and even for those who didn't, the news of her tragic death has struck a deep nerve.

The owner of the SAG Funeral Home on Buchanan Street is trying to make things easier on the family, vowing to give a funeral and burial free of charge.

"I am pulling out everything we have at this facility," said Steve Ganaway, owner of SAG Funeral Home. "Whatever the family needs, motorcycle hearses, whatever.

“I am so tired of burying our kids,” Ganaway added.

Police said Tuesday afternoon, Harmony was shot and killed inside her aunt's home in J.C. Napier public housing on Lewis Street. According to police, a 14-year-old inside the home said the 2-year-old male cousin shot Harmony.

Wednesday afternoon, the gun still hadn't been found. Police are looking for Anthony Sanders who they say ran away from the scene after learning the second grade honor student had been shot.

"Why was the gun out? Why was it there and children were around? I don't understand," said radio host and assistant manager at SAG Funeral Home, Connie Dennell.

"I was just sick yesterday. I laid on my bed a cried," Dennell said. "A senseless accident that could have been prevented.

“No reason why a gun should have been lying where a child can get a hold of it. There is no reason, no excuse. It should be locked up and put up," she added.

Dennell has been active in communities like Napier trying to keep youth on the right path.

"It starts at that age," Dennell said. "That's where we prevent this from happening. Parents, we have to talk to them too. Y'all need a class because something is going wrong, and we need to find out what it is and stop it. We are losing our babies and we are tired of losing our babies."

A member of Warfield's family told Channel 4 they want Sanders to turn himself in so police can question him about the gun.

The family is organizing candlelight vigil will be Saturday 6 p.m. at 3814 Fairview Drive, at the grandmother's home off of Clarksville Highway.

The funeral for Harmony will be held Wednesday at Mt. Gilead Missionary Baptist Church on Acklen Avenue.

The visitation will be Tuesday at the SAG Funeral Home on Buchanan Street from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The funeral home is accepting donations to their location to help with expenses. The funeral home asks that donations be made at any Citizens Bank in Davidson County; checks can be made payable to SAG Funeral Home.
