Lebanon woman says she was raped walking home

Posted: Updated:

An 18-year-old woman in Lebanon said she was hit over the head, attacked and raped while walking home Tuesday afternoon.

A Wilson County sheriff’s deputy found the victim screaming for help while walking out of a wooded area near East Spring Street and Park Avenue.

The woman told the deputy she took a short cut, then was hit over the head and raped. She said something then scared the attacker and he ran off.

Gerry Clark lives just feet away from the scene.

"I’ve been living here a long time and I don’t feel any danger or anything like that. It is unfortunate what happened to this young woman," Clark said.

He said the area is a popular cut through between two streets.

“If you’re going to go somewhere, stay on the street. You’d be better off than walking through a wooded area," Clark said.

The incident happened less than a half-mile from two different child care centers.

"I would be concerned if I had my children there and things like that are happening around the area," Clark said.

Police say she described the suspect as a black male in his early 20s with a lower lip piercing. He was wearing a blue shirt and blue pants or shorts.

Anyone with information related to this crime or suspect is asked to call the Lebanon Police Department at 615-444-2323.
