Loose barge hits dock on Cumberland River downtown

Posted: Updated:
NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Officials say they are not sure how a loose barge managed to float down the Cumberland River and strike a floating dock by the Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge.

The dock was pushed around 100 yards but remained connected.

However, the impact caused a fire boat on the dock to dislodge and also float downstream.

Another boater saw the loose fire boat and contacted the Nashville Fire Dept. and helped pull the rogue craft back upstream.

Fire officials say their boat only sustained minimal damage, but they plan to pull it out of the water during daylight and inspect it more thoroughly.
