Police: 1 killed, 2 injured in east Nashville shooting

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

One person was killed and two others injured in a shooting near the intersection of Eighth Street South and Shelby Avenue on Friday.

Police said the incident occurred around 1:15 p.m. in the Cayce Homes public housing development.

Police say Travis Rosemond, 26, was killed in the shooting. Montel Sowell, 20, and Mario Woodard, 14, were also injured. They were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center and are expected to recover.

Police say two groups exchanged gunfire when Rosemond was hit. He ran to a nearby vehicle, where he was later found in the passenger seat.

Rosemond was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he died.

Investigators are working to identify other young men involved in the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.

Police say it’s unclear if they were shooting at each other or someone else was shooting at them.

    Police are still investigating a fatal shooting that occurred at 546 South 6th Street around 11:17 p.m.  A black male in his early 20s was found lying in the parking lot with a gunshot wound to his head.

    An SUV traveling westbound on the I-440 ramp to I-65 North exited the ramp and fell about 60 feet, landing the car on railroad tracks. The Nashville Fire Department confirmed that part of the car landed on a parked train below. The driver was trapped in the car and officials had to free the driver with extraction equipment.
