NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The Chester County school bus driver involved in a rollover crash on Interstate 65 in Nashville last year has been indicted, yet is still on the district's payroll.

Christina Mathis, 29, is facing 35 counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of felony reckless endangerment.

Tuesday, the Channel 4 I-Team learned Mathis went back to driving a school bus in January, nearly six weeks after the crash.

The wreck happened on Nov. 18, 2016, on the off-ramp from I-65 North to Briley Parkway.

Mathis was driving students from Chester County High School to the Opryland Hotel for a convention. She was driving the first of three buses.

The Metro Nashville Police Department determined that Mathis was driving too fast when she exited I-65, which caused her to lose control of the bus before hitting a guardrail and overturning.

Forty-eight people, including Mathis, were on the bus at the time. Thirty-five people were injured, including two students. The students were released from the hospital several days later.

An investigation conducted by the The Tennessee Highway Patrol determined the bus did not have any mechanical defects.

Mathis' bond was set at $50,000. She bonded out of jail last Thursday which was the same day she was arrested.

Her arraignment date has not yet been set.

Director of Chester County Schools, Troy Kilzer says they will make a decision after Mathis appears in court whether she will come back in August once schools starts again.
