SMYRNA, TN (WSMV) -

The town of Smyrna announced a permanent honor for fallen Blue Angels pilot Capt. Jeff Kuss on Thursday.

Kuss died last June when his jet crashed during a practice run for the Great Tennessee Air Show in Smyrna.

City leaders held a news conference Thursday afternoon to announce plans to honor the fallen Marine captain.

A Blue Angels jet will be part of this memorial.

“Honor, integrity, excellence, those core values that the Marines and the Navy have,” said Smyrna Mayor Mary Esther Reed. “When you come to that site, you’re going to see those values talked about.”

The city is asking for help in paying for the plane, hoping residents will take a personal stake in the memorial.
