NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A teen is in the hospital after she was injured in a drive-by shooting in Edgehill.

The girl's mother says it's only by the grace of God her daughter is alive.

According to Metro police, the teen and her friend were sitting outside her aunt's house on the 1300 block of 14th Avenue South when a white car with tinted windows drove by and started shooting just before midnight.

They both ran inside but not before a bullet grazed the girl's leg. Her friend wasn't hurt.

The gunman also shot the mailbox and the front door.

The teen's mom said she can't imagine why anyone would shoot at her daughter.

"She doesn’t have any enemies, so obviously they weren’t shooting at her. This is an innocent person who got shot," said the girl's mother.

The teen is expected to be OK. The bullets grazed her leg.

Police have not released a description of the gunman at this time.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call police.
