NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A 15-year-old student was arrested Wednesday after allegedly bringing a loaded pistol to Hunters Lane High School.

Acting on a student’s tip, police went to the student’s classroom. Officers and school staff say they saw the ninth grader’s right hand was inside his hoodie pocket.

Police said the student refused commands to remove his hands from his pocket. Officer James Boone grabbed the student’s hand inside the jacket before removing the gun.

Police said the gun was loaded with six rounds.

The teen told police he found the gun and said he had it for protection in his neighborhood.

The student was taken to juvenile detention and charged with carrying a gun on school property.
