NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

School is almost out and it appears a lesson may have been learned after a Channel 4 I-Team investigation.

Work is now underway on the air vents inside Bellevue Middle School. It comes less than a week after the I-Team exposed some filthy conditions at the school some parents and teachers say are causing illness.

Pictures sent by a current teacher at Bellevue Middle School show work being done to air vents throughout the school.

This is the same teacher who sent the I-Team videos from March showing a black substance caking several vents throughout the school.

“I wanted to show you the black substance coming out of the vents,” the teacher said in the video sent to the I-Team.

In the new video, a worker is seen taking out panels on the ceiling around a vent in the hallway.

"The work is just now being done,” the teacher said.

Another picture shows the inside of one of the vents that had been taken down.

A Metro Schools spokesperson told the I-Team some vents throughout the school are getting new diffusers, which is basically a new cover.

So will that make a difference? A technician at Halo Heating and Cooling said diffusers give something a prettier appearance, but added new diffusers mean nothing if mold is growing on the inside. The only way to fix it he said is to clean it.

Metro Schools officials said the vents were last cleaned in March.

The teacher also shared video of the vents after they were cleaned.

“They've cleaned this area all around it but not treated the real problem which is inside the returns,” the teacher said in the video.

Metro School Board member Amy Frogge said she has received complaints from parents about the possible mold. While she wouldn't go on camera, she said she is currently following up with the district about these complaints.

School board members said the only person that can speak on camera on behalf of the board is the chair, Anna Shepherd. She was unavailable to do an on-camera interview on Wednesday.

The last full day of school for Metro Schools is next Wednesday.
