Preds fans advised to watch out for counterfeit merchandise

Posted: Updated:

The Predators are back in town for Game 3 of the Western Conference Final and so are the counterfeiters.

Merchandise for pro teams is a big business, and it helps support teams financially. Counterfeiters try to get a slice of that business.

During last year's playoffs, the NHL worked with law enforcement to seize over 3,200 pieces of fake merchandise, worth about $500,000.

Real items will have an NHL hologram sticker or hangtag and a label that's sewn in or screen printed that says "officially licensed."

Consumers are also advised to double check that player and team names are spelled correctly and that the colors appear accurate.

The NHL says they'll be working closely with local and federal law enforcement this playoff season to bust anyone out there selling fake gear.
