NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A Metro councilman is raising questions about the process of deciding what happens to the old Greer Stadium.

A few months ago, Metro invited developers to pitch their ideas for creating workforce housing and open space, but the process has not been very transparent.

A handful of developers were invited to a closed-door meeting on Monday afternoon to show their plans and explain their ideas for the land where the empty ballpark sits.

Under state law, the bidding process is secret. The public could not attend. The public also isn’t entitled to know who has been appointed to the committee that is evaluating the proposals.

Metro Finance spokesman Zak Kelley said he doesn’t want the process called “secret.”

“You can’t call that a secret process when all of those documents are public record. They are not public record while it is in a competitive bidding process,” Kelley said.

Metro Councilman John Cooper has written a letter to the city’s legal department with several questions, including whether the city is declaring the taxpayer-owned land surplus property.
