NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A toddler was killed and three people were injured in a crash on Interstate 440 West on Monday morning.

Police said the crash happened around 9 a.m. near the exit for 21st Avenue/Hillsboro Pike.

Officials say 2-year-old Logan Pederson was transported to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Police said they believe a dump truck rear-ended a Mercury Mariner that was stopped in traffic, which caused a chain reaction, hitting a Nissan Frontier and a Cadillac SRX.

The boy was in the rear child safety seat of the Mariner. His father and mother, Robert and Samantha Hudson, were both in the car.

Samantha Hudson, who is a police department dispatcher in Lebanon, suffered a concussion. Robert Hudson was burned by his airbag. Both have been treated and released from the hospital.

A YouCaring account has been set up for the Hudson family. Click here for more information.

The driver of the dump truck, 40-year-old Shawn Gardner, told investigators he was looking down at the time of the crash after some items inside the truck had fallen to the floor board. He was not injured.

The driver of the Frontier, 67-year-old Nolberta Gardea, was transported to Saint Thomas Midtown Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No one was injured in the SRX.

The dump truck involved in the crash has a Division 2 Construction logo on it. Division 2 Construction officials said they don’t know enough about what happened to comment at this time.

Division 2 Construction is not rated by the Better Business Bureau, but they have not received any complaints about the company. A BBB official said the company works for businesses.

Police said there was no evidence of drug or alcohol involvement at the scene.
