NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Nashville is off to the races! The 76th Iroquois Steeplechase kicks off this Saturday, May 13, at Percy Warner Park.

Considered Nashville's "rite of spring since 1941," Steeplechase is held each year on the second Saturday of May to celebrate iconic horseracing, time-honored traditions, Tennessee hospitality and Southern fashions.

The Iroquois Steeplechase is held by The Volunteer State Horsemen's Foundation to raise money for the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt. Since becoming their main beneficiary, they have donated over $10 million to the hospital.

Each year, the event attracts over 25,000 spectators, families and horse-racing fanatics donning bow ties and larger-than-life hats ready to tailgate, bet on their favorite horses, drink Honey Jack Juleps and enjoy crowd-pleasing recipes.

You'll need some sunscreen on Saturday, it should be super sunny! But don't forget to check in with the 4Warn Weather Center for possible storms -- it is spring in Nashville, after all!

Infield tailgating open at 8:30 a.m., tents open at 11 a.m., and the first race begins at 1 p.m.
