OLD HICKORY, TN (WSMV) -

Police called off the active manhunt for two suspects near the Old Hickory Dam early Wednesday morning.

The situation began when an officer was patrolling an area off Cinder and Swinging Bridge roads when he spotted a car, ran its tags and realized it had been stolen from a nearby auto dealer.

According to police, that's when five people jumped out of the stolen car and ran away.

Officers were able to track down three of the five people. Two of the suspects remain at large.

Metro police brought in a helicopter to assist with the active manhunt, which was called off around 5 a.m.

At one point, Channel 4's photographer was asked to stay inside his car because the K-9s were trying to track down these people, one of whom was believed to be armed and dangerous.

Officials have not released descriptions of the remaining two suspects.
