NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Five children suffered minor injuries in a crash involving a Metro school bus on Wednesday afternoon.

Those five children were transported to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital and are expected to be released Wednesday evening.

The crash happened just after 4 p.m. on McCall Street at Glencliff Road. Twenty-six children were on board at the time.

Police said it has not yet been determined what caused the bus driver, 59-year-old Shirley Brown, to lose control of the bus.

The bus was traveling eastbound when it crossed into westbound traffic and collided with two SUV.

The driver of one of the SUVs, 52-year-old Saddia Brooks, was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Police said the five children injured included three 13-year-olds, one 12-year-old and an 11-year-old.

Police said Brown did not exhibit any signs of impairment, but a blood sample was taken and will undergo toxicology analysis.

The investigation into this crash is ongoing.
