NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The new director of Metro Schools has completed his 100-day report. In it, Dr. Shawn Joseph talks about his goals and priorities moving forward.

Joseph’s full presentation, which is planned for Tuesday night’s board meeting, will explain how the work he has done so far will be used to develop a new strategic plan for the district.

The report states there will be quick action taken in the areas of:

  • Instructional rigor
  • Advanced academic options
  • Middle school programming
  • Diversity pay
  • Parent engagement at the school level
  • Facility planning
  • Performance monitoring and management

In January, Joseph’s transition team is expected to turn in a report of recommendations for improvement.

“I am humbled and appreciative to be in Nashville at this time in our history because I know we will get it right,” Joseph said. “There are so many people who are passionate about helping and we must continue to collaborate with and listen to them. We cannot be the fastest growing urban district in America without them. Together, we will deliver a world-class public education to every student every day.”

Since he started with the district, Joseph has made some controversial decisions, including hiring a new leadership team that is costing the district more than $500,000.
