NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The wind made it difficult for firefighters to contain a brush fire that broke out in Antioch on Monday morning.

The fire happened on a farm property near the intersection of Cane Ridge Road and Old Hickory Boulevard. It burned more than 50 acres.

Nashville firefighters used several bulldozers to contain the fire. Homeowners also joined with their bush hogs trying to knock down sage grass to prevent the fire from spreading.

Firefighters eventually got the brush fire under control, but said it would have to burn itself out.

According to the Tennessee Forestry Division, there are at least 40 active wildfires in the state affecting more than 15,000 acres. Eight fires have broken out in the last 24 hours.

Firefighters are hoping rain on Monday will help.
