NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Metro police have identified a suspect accused of beating and robbing a woman as she walked home from a play at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center.

The last showing of The Book of Mormon had just let out at 10:30 p.m. Saturday. A 59-year-old woman left and began walking for several blocks to her apartment on 3rd Avenue.

Before she could get there, police said two men hit her over the head with a metal stake and stole her purse and cell phone.

Police now believe one of those two men is Brandon Dotson. Detectives recognized him from surveillance video recorded at First Tennessee Park.

After walking by several surveillance cameras at the ballpark, police said the suspects followed and mugged the woman when she turned on Junior Gilliam Way.

Other walkers told Channel 4 they were shocked to learn it happened in a well-lit area.

“I won’t walk by myself anymore because I didn’t realize it was on this street,” said Montie Smith, who walks near the ballpark.

Dotson has been arrested several times since this summer for breaking into an unoccupied home, vandalism and drug possession.

Police and neighbors said they want both suspects off the streets.

“I’m hoping that anybody that sees them will turn them in. Don’t be scared,” Smith said.

The victim in this incident was able to walk home and call police. She was taken to the hospital with a serious head gash.

Anyone who knows where Dotson or the other suspect in the video may be is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
