Thanksgiving shopping is often thought of as crowds, lines and madness.

This year though in west Nashville there were fewer shoppers than usual.

"It is a lot quieter," said Angie Tatum.

"I expected there to be a lot more people now or here than there is right now," said Lauren Saul.

Many shoppers told Channel 4 News they were happy it was not crowded or freezing.

"In the past the night before I was in a tent with a heater, a cot and blankets," said Tatum.

For the past 10 years Tatum has been one of the first in line at Best Buy.

"Usually it's a few tents and people sit overnight," said Tatum.

This year the line didn't start forming until an hour before the store opened.

"I guess people are just wanting to spend more time with family this year because stores don't open quite so early" said Saul.

"I didn't really see that many ads advertised in the paper today," said Samie Austin.

No one knows for sure why the smaller lines this year but those waiting were happy they got what they came for.
