NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The Nashville Rescue Mission is serving up Thanksgiving meals to those in need, and dozens of volunteers have helped make it possible through donating their time to others this holiday.

The mission will serve three meals on Thanksgiving, which is about 2,000 meals for 700 to 800 homeless people, totaling about 6,000 meals over two days.

"Coming from the lifestyle that I led to have something like this, this is just something to be grateful for," said Lionel Moore, who stays at the Nashville Rescue Mission. "Personally, yes, I am in a time of need. I have a support group out here. I'm pulling for them, and they are pulling for me. I'm so grateful for you guys to come in and see that this is what it's all about."

It took community donations to bring together hundreds of cans of fruit, 2,000 eggs and trays full of biscuits and sausage patties for breakfast.

"It really is an opportunity to bring attention to what we do at the mission 365 days a year," said Cheryl Noe, senior director of development at the Mission.

Dozens of volunteers packed the kitchen prepping for Thanksgiving lunch and dinner. Some families are frequent faces who look to lend a helping hand.

"We made it a tradition, and we've been getting up to do this every morning. Every year for the past eight years, we've been coming here," said volunteer Ola Adeyemo.
