The smell of fried turkey was wafting over downtown Nashville on Tuesday.

Country star Tracy Lawrence hosted his 11th annual Mission Possible Turkey Fry outside the Nashville Rescue Mission.

He and a group of volunteers fried up hundreds of turkeys to help feed the homeless.

Lawrence said the turkey fry began as a way to get his children involved in giving back.

“It’s something that’s real special to them,” he said. “And we’ve got, through church connections, people that live in hotels, people that are living in tents in tent city that are really struggling.”

The program has been so successful that Dallas will host a similar event on Wednesday.

After all the turkeys are cooked, Lawrence will headline a benefit concert with Big and Rich at the Wildhorse Saloon on Tuesday night.
