NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The only thing missing Monday morning was the Family Truckster.

A Griswold-sized, 35-foot Norway spruce was destined for downtown Nashville.

With the help of a hook and some cranes, Nashville's Christmas tree proved that like Santa's sleigh, it too can fly.

"This is a perfect size, beautiful tree, it'll decorate really well,” David Taylor said.

The set down on Public Square is all about what will be, but in west Nashville on Monday at the Taylors’ home, it was more about what was.

The stump, a couple of pine cones and a photo of how it survived the flood are all that's left.

"It was such a pretty tree. Hated to cut it up, man. I just wish somebody could use a big tree like this and it worked out perfect,” Taylor said.

That's when the Christmas light went on in Taylor’s head.

"It's a perfect Christmas tree,” he said.

Perfect for a public display downtown, but not perfect anymore for his front yard.

"It was getting, man, it was growing like lightning. This tree is 18 years old. We got it in the house, this tall. We'd decorate it at Christmas time first four years. Just kept getting bigger and bigger and bigger,” Taylor said.

Instead of the ax, the spruce gets six weeks of glory, its Christmas green pushing autumn’s orange to the background.

Taking its final bow.

"This is beautiful, great tree,” Taylor said.
