NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A pedestrian has died after being struck on Interstate 40 near the Nashville International Airport on Monday afternoon.

Westbound traffic was slowed for several hours while emergency crews were on the scene near Briley Parkway. All lanes reopened Monday evening.

The victim was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Metro police later confirmed that the pedestrian has died.

The victim has been identified as Alvaro Bartlett, 20. Police said he was riding with his mother when she thought she heard something fall off her car.

After his mother pulled over, Bartlett got out of the car and walked onto the interstate when he was struck by a yellow pickup truck with gray primer spots.

Police said the driver of the truck did not stop and continued west on I-40.

Anyone with information about the driver of the truck is asked to call hit-and-run investigators at 615-862-7713 or Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
