TDOT halting lane closures, road work during Thanksgiving holiday

Posted: Updated:

The Tennessee Department of Transportation will be halting all lane closures and road work for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Because of the busy travel period, all closures will temporarily open from noon Wednesday through 6 a.m. Monday.

Long-term road closures will remain in effect on some projects. Workers may be on site in some construction zones.

AAA predicts 48.7 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more during the holiday weekend. Over 1 million people are expected to drive through Tennessee.

TDOT Commissioner John Schroer said he hopes this will help alleviate congestion during the peak travel days.

TDOT is also partnering with other agencies to keep drivers safe. On Wednesday and on Sunday, THP troopers will be stationed every 20 miles on Interstate 40.
