HENDERSONVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The Hendersonville man charged with the death of his daughter will return to court next week.

Timothy Batts faces a number of charges, including reckless homicide and tampering with evidence.

Batts was scheduled to have a hearing on Monday morning but told the judge he does not have an attorney. The judge granted him another week to hire one.

Police said Batts shot his daughter, Timea, as she returned from the first day of school in August.

According to investigators, Batts initially claimed his daughter came home with a gunshot wound. He later changed his story, saying he opened fire after she startled him.

Batts had his bond revoked in September after he tested positive for cocaine.

Batts' next hearing has been scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 28.
