WHITES CREEK, TN (WSMV) -

A clerk at a gas station in Whites Creek escaped with his life after a robber threatened to shoot him.

According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, the man who held up the Marathon gas station on Old Hickory Boulevard claimed to have a gun but may not have been armed.

The robber walked in at around 2:30 a.m. Monday and demanded money from the employee working behind the register. According to the clerk, the man said he had a gun but when the clerk asked to see it, he wouldn't take his hand out of his pocket.

The clerk turned around and locked himself inside the gas station office.

The suspect jumped the counter, ripped out the cash drawer and ran out to his car. Police said he was driving a dark-colored four-door sedan, possibly a Nissan Altima.

The suspect is 5'10" and is believed to be in his late 20s. The clerk last saw the man wearing a black jacket with white logos, a blue shirt, jeans, white shoes and a black knit cap.

Police said they think this robber could be the same person who robbed another gas station this weekend off Highway 70.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Metro police at 615-862-8600.
