MILWAUKEE (AP) - Neil Walker had two hits in his Milwaukee debut, helping the Brewers to a 7-4 victory over the Cincinnati Reds Sunday. Walker came over in a trade with the New York Mets on Saturday. He started at third base in place of the banged-up Travis Shaw and went 2 for 4 with a run scored.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Justin Thomas has captured his first major, shooting 68 to win the 2017 PGA Championship. It is the fourth win of the year for Thomas, who entered the week as the world's 14th ranked player. The 24-year-old Thomas started the day two shots back of third-round leader Kevin Kisner, but began to make a move on the seventh hole.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Coach Mike Mularkey hopes his Tennessee Titans got just the wake-up call needed from an ugly loss to open the preseason, especially from some mistakes that were quite the eye-opener. Mularkey even watched tape of their 7-3 loss to the New York Jets a couple times to be sure, and the coach says he saw fewer mistakes than he originally thought. Of the mistakes he saw, Mularkey says some were critical with some "catastrophic" as the Titans gave up eight sacks and turned the ball over twice.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee coach Butch Jones has heard the criticism over his use of slogans and catchphrases, from calling last year's seniors "champions of life" to describing his pursuit of recruits possessing "five-star hearts." But he doesn't plan to change his approach and wonders why his program gets singled out in this regard.
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) - Songbird will return to Saratoga to run in the $700,000 Personal Ensign on August 26th rather than taking on male horses in the $1 million Pacific Classic at Del Mar a week earlier. Owner Rick Porter of Fox Hill Farm said Sunday that Saratoga is his favorite track and the Personal Ensign is the right race for the 4-year-old filly.
