NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A Metro police sergeant is on administrative leave after shooting an armed man outside a Donelson restaurant on Sunday night.

Police said the suspect, Jordan Martel Agnew, was a disgruntled former employee of Uncle Bud's on Old Lebanon Pike.

Metro police spokesman Don Aaron said Agnew first showed up at the restaurant around 4 p.m. Witnesses said he waved a gun and asked for a manager by name. They said Agnew also threatened to shoot the manager.

Someone who was with Agnew got him to leave, but while he was driving off, he allegedly slammed his car into a trailer behind the business.

Officers with the Hermitage Precinct were monitoring the area near the restaurant after someone reported the incident.

Hours later, Agnew returned and allegedly opened fire outside Uncle Bud's, striking the building. At the time, there were multiple customers and employees inside the restaurant.

Police said Sgt. Jeff Goodwin confronted Agnew in a bank drive-thru near the restaurant and told him to put the gun down. Agnew allegedly refused, which is when Goodwin fired shots at 8:10 p.m.

Goodwin, 50, is a 28-year veteran of the department. He has been placed on routine administrative assignment.

According to Metro police, Agnew was fired from the restaurant on Sept. 12. He was free on $10,000 bond after an arrest on Sept. 24 in connection with a hit-and-run.

Agnew, 26, underwent surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center overnight. His condition is unknown at this time.
