NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

The fight to liberate Mosul from ISIS control is ongoing.

U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Gary Volesky spoke with NBC's chief foreign correspondent Richard Engel about how the offensive is going.

Volesky, Commanding General of the 101st Airborne Division and Fort Campbell, said his troops are providing air support and heavy artillery in the fight.

"The Iraqis have the momentum, they know it, and they want to get there as quickly as they can," Volesky said.

Volesky told NBC that he is concerned ISIS will launch terror attacks on targets in the West in retaliation.

"That's what we're worried about, from my perspective back at home is when Mosul falls, how are they going to try and deflect the attention?" Volesky said.
