NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Early voting is underway across Tennessee, and in Davidson County, there appears to be a record turnout.

According to the Davidson County Election Commission, 12,303 people voted on Wednesday. On the first day of early voting in 2012, 10,262 votes were cast.

Hundreds cast their ballots at the Green Hills library on Wednesday morning. The line has been backed up to the front door since 8 a.m.

Library employees told Channel 4 they've never seen crowds like this on the first day of early voting.

“Obviously the ballot’s not very long, so it doesn’t take long to vote. Don’t be intimidated by long lines, just meet your neighbors,” said Nancy DeKalb with the Davidson County Election Commission.

Roughly half of the voters in the presidential election in Nashville are expected to cast their ballot before Nov. 8.

There are 12 early voting sites in Davidson County. If you are a registered voter, you can go to any of them to cast your ballot up until Nov. 3.

The number of registered voters in Davidson County topped 400,000 this year for the first time ever.
