According to documents filed in federal court, the U.S. Attorney’s Office called 24 witnesses to testify before the grand jury that indicted Rutherford County Sheriff Robert Arnold.

Prosecutors said they have turned over all the transcripts of the witnesses’ testimony to the defense.

Arnold faces a 13-count indictment. The charges revolve around allegations that Arnold was a private partner in a company that sold e-cigarettes to inmates at his own jail while splitting the profits with his uncle and his finance deputy, Joe Russell.

Russell is asking the taxpayers to pay for two lawyers to defend him. He is still at work at the sheriff’s department.

Arnold is being held in a jail in Kentucky until his trial in February.
