FAIRVIEW, TN (WSMV) -

A Fairview police officer is on administrative leave while investigators look into a rape allegation.

The woman filed a report over the weekend, according to Dickson police.

Police said the incident happened on Saturday within Dickson city limits at the Best Western Hotel.

According to the police report, the alleged victim said she was assessed at Horizon Medical Center where several injuries were observed, including red marks around her throat, a bite mark to her leg and a head injury.

The suspect, Derrick Byrum, met with detectives with the Dickson County Sheriff’s Office because he wanted to explain his side of the story.

Byrum said he and the victim had a relationship years ago and had agreed to meet up last week.

In the report, the suspect claimed they had "rough" consensual sex, but the woman then requested to stop and they did.

The case was ultimately referred to Dickson police. Initial reports state police interviewed both the suspect and the alleged victim.

Commander Eddie Breeden with the Dickson Police Department said this case could go before a Dickson grand jury.

Fairview City Manager Scott Collins told Channel 4's Liz Lohuis:

Our primary focus is the safety of the public and the perception of the safety we provide.  We also in this matter have to respect the employee and because of that Mr. Byrum has been placed on administrative leave.
