MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) -

Sexual assault counselors say rape rhetoric in the election is horrifying to sexual assault survivors.

They’re calling for the finger-pointing and name-calling to stop.

“Both candidates are spending so much time defending themselves and saying, ‘I know I am, but what are you?’” said counselor Kim Reynolds with the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Center in Murfreesboro.

Donald Trump is being called a sexual predator.

“The whole world has heard how Trump mistreats women and the stories just keep coming,” said Hillary Clinton.

Hillary Clinton is being called the wife of a rapist.

Reynolds says it's all gone too far.

“What if there is somebody who is now being taken advantage of or is being assaulted and they're seeing this happening and say, ‘Well that's why I don't want to report because see what is happening? That will happen to me,’” said Reynolds.

Reynolds has serious concerns that less victims will report a rape because of the rape rhetoric.

“They are made to feel like they are going to be called liars,” said Reynolds.
