NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Kids who have to endure lengthy hospital stays will have some comforts of home.

Asaiah Dudley went on a shopping spree on Wednesday at the Big Lots on Annex Avenue.

The things put in his care weren’t for him. They’re for patients at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

Big Lots stores around the country are raising money for the hospital and they’re hosting shopping sprees.

The shoppers, like Asaiah, know what it’s like to be in a hospital.

Asaiah has muscular dystrophy and was a patient at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, OH.

He said his condition doesn’t hold him back.

“I try not to think about my disability,” said Asaiah, who lives in Clarksville. “I don’t see it as a hindrance in school and my friends don’t treat me much different than anybody else. They treat me normal. They make me laugh sometimes. They laugh at my corny puns.”

This is the second year Big Lots has raised money for Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

Last year the retailer raised $2.2 million. This year the goal to raise is $3 million.
