Police: Driver in Ellington Pkwy crash died from gunshot wound

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Metro police say the driver of a pickup truck who ran off of Ellington Parkway early Tuesday morning appears to have died from a gunshot wound.

The Medical Examiner’s Office discovered the gunshot during an examination of Ryan Trent’s body. It was previously thought that Trent died from injuries sustained in the crash.

A passerby noticed the pickup truck in the trees just and called 911 just before 3 a.m. Trent died at the scene.

Detectives are working to learn more about Trent, including where he may have been before the crash.

Police also want to hear from anyone who may have seen the white Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck run off the road on Ellington Parkway near Briley Parkway.
